I recently sat down and watched “The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai” which was released in 1984. This film is the definition of cult classic. It made me curious about the other movies released in 1984. Thanks to the miracle of Wikipedia, I was easily able to find this stellar list of flicks. Please enjoy these movie posters representing my favorite films from my favorite year (8 year-old Adrockington would be so pleased). Disclaimer: You’re going to see a poster for the movie “Purple Rain”. Don’t judge me too harshly on this one. I most certainly did not like this movie. It’s just that…well….Prince was the coolest back in the day. I’m talking one righteous dude. Little Red Corvette is playing in mind as I type. So the poster stays…that is all….Enjoy!
I’m really not embarrassed to say I’ve seen every one.
I rejoice that I’ve seen all these movies. What a great year for entertainment.
That was an awesome year for movies.
The best. Makes sense why I’m still stuck in the 80s.
Where are “Star Trek III: The Search For Spock”, “Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter”, “A Nightmare On Elm Street (The Original), “The Cotton Club”, The Killing Fields”, “Supergirl”, “Gimme An F”, “Streets Of Fire” and “Breakin'”?
Thanks for the observations. I have reasons for excluding all. Ready? Here we go:
Star Trek III – One of the worst movie posters of 1984. Somebody in the art department phoned this one in. Excluded.
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter – Clearly not the final chapter. I think they made another 84 Friday movies after this. Excluded.
Cotton Club/Killing Fields/Gimme an F – Not familiar with the films. Excluded due to my ignorance.
Supergirl – Ah. Yep. Just a bad movie. Excluded.
Breakin – I liked Breakin. Problem is, they released the sequel in the same year. Can’t have two Breakin movies in the same list. Excluded.
“The Search For Spock” actually had two movie posters. The most famous one being the one on the video and DVD releases, the one with the tagline, “A Dying Planet. A Fight For Life”.
You sir are correct. Lets put it on the list! For some reason, the resource I used only had the movie poster with no words.
